August 30th - Day 12

Cleveland, Oh. - St. Louis, Mo.

Today’s travels brought an event I had never experienced before, sitting in the front seat of a cop cruiser. The reason stems from the fact that I have a slight* tendency to not obey the marked lines on roadways. Ohio’s State Patrol did not seem to like this and promptly pulled me over asking me for my license and registration. After explaining to him why we were passing through he asked me to get out of the car. Once outside he began questioning me and asked me if I had any knives, guns or hand grenades on me or in my car. I could not help but laugh after hearing hand grenades but the officer did not take it so lightly. After patting me down the officer told me to wait in the front seat of his cruiser. And so I waited, and waited, looking around the cop car to relieve my boredom. Things were so much more different in the front of a cruiser, everything including the radio and keys in the ignition were accessible. Eventually the cop came back and asked me if I had any drugs in the car to which I replied no. He asked me again and then proceeded to tell me that I had better not lest he call in the K-9 unit. Once again I told him that the only drugs I had were prescription and were legal in both countries. After that he wrote me up a traffic warning and told me to stay in the marked lines.

After that we did have anymore encounters with law enforcement officers. Whom we did encounter were roving gangs of scrappers in Studebaker. ETMJ had wanted to see it so I said what the hell and made a second visit to it. The only thing different about this trip was that there were much more scrappers and much less copper and aluminum left in the building. One thing that made me laugh to myself was the scrappers concern for our presence. Nearly every scrapper asked the same two questions, “What are you doing here?” and “Are you going to tell someone I am here?” As if we were going to say yes to that second question. Studebaker did not disappoint once again and I was glad I had the chance to explore it before demolition started later in September.

"Mike Fagital" goes West.
(If you were not at NEOPEX 05 you missed Mike Digital saying how some explorer was placing "Mike Fagital" tags in abandoned buildings and other various places. I decided to continue on with the tag purely for satirical reasons as M.D. is a "wicked" good guy.

While ETMJ made his way back to the twin cities I headed south towards Saint Louis, Missouri. I wasn’t too sure what was in the city or surrounding metropolitan area but I was sure that there could be something to explore. To help me out I also had a guide whom was going to help me out so things should not be too hard. This cheese I bought in some truckstop outside of Gary does not taste right, I can only hope that I don’t come down with something otherwise exploring is going to be a real chore.

*Ask EatsTooMuchJam about this, he can tell you first hand about this tendency.
